Being jobless...

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 3, 2009, 10:16 AM

...is cool

Well not exactly jobless but not as busy as I would want to be. Well not want to be but have to be. Unfortunately parasitic life is frowned upon in our society. :shakefist: Not much happening in life. Just testing my sea legs frequently between Athens and Chios and since I have been taking the same ship all the time I have made some new friends lol They don't need to check my ticket anymore.

My photographic life is non existent even though the skies here are incredible. I just can't be arsed to go and shoot. I think the mountains have enchanted me and the sea has lost its appeal but the mountains are far away and beyond my reach for the moment. Will be heading south to make the tour of Peloponnese for Christmas so the time is near :w00t: Before that though I am waiting for one bloody e-mail that refuses to arrive. For B&H to inform me that the D3s is on stock so I can have it sent to a friend who is coming home for the holidays. Patience Kozy, patience. Anyway that is all for now

One final note. All prints activity but for the kittens has been suspended from DeviantArt. Won't be selling prints through dA for the time being, actually until there is no need for a print account. Since I had some new print requests and some new work in my HDD, I will be opening an account at Redbubble and once this is done I will let you know. I hope it is still free over there. :giggle: That is all for now I think...

Bye Bye D3

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 2, 2009, 4:11 AM

...welcome D3s

My D3 fund is approaching its goal and while I was looking around some shops in the area they all told me the same thing, that the official Nikon importer isn't updating his D3 stock and that only meant that a new product was about to hit the market. So I took their advise and waited a bit and a couple of weeks ago indeed a new product was released, the D3s. If they sell it at the price of the D3 then I am going for it though I will preferable make my purchase from the US which is considerably cheaper. I am tempted to wait for a D700x which will more likely be a reality soon but then again you never know and I am a bit tired of waiting plus, as stupid as this will sound, I kind of like the chunky body of the D3s and I hate how cameras look with battery grips. If the D3 was still available I'd get the D3 since I couldn't care less about the video feature though I do like the self cleaning sensor that they implemented in this design and the ridiculous high ISO sensitivity. Can't wait to see some sample images of 102,400 ISO

In other news not so much going on. Work is scarce, financial condition is awkward but not going to despair :)Could take some money from the Nikon upgrade fund but NO I'd rather starve and I think I am going to lol. Autumn is here and hopefully I will have the chance to head up north and walk my way some mountain paths looking for pictures but I am not sure I will be able to. :fingerscrossed: I wish I had the chance to hibernate in Chios at *justeline's side but that is just not possible at the moment. Anyway life isn't as miserable as I may sound, I am just bored to death in Athens with nothing to do.

Oh and "joke" of the month. In my failure to acknowledge the "beauty" of an over done over dramatized HDR where composition was non existent the fellow "photographer" came to the conclusion that even though my technical skills were at a high level I am imagination deprived therefore I am not able to see the beauty of the photograph. Too bad this site didn't have that emoticon :ohmygod:

...well from next Tuesday at least

Been away the last four days attending at the exhibition and staying at Maria's place with no internet connection and came back to a few surprises :) First about the exhibition though. As you know Maria and me were taking part in one and for both of us it was our first and a completely new experience. Setting up was fun, met a lot of people and since it was hosted at a very central location it had quite a lot of visitors too. It is a weird feeling watching complete strangers actually looking at your pictures and commenting on them, though I kept my distance all the time and never actually heard what was being said. Another thing I observed was that the whole exhibition was consisted mainly of pictures that I have already seen, though online I considered them to be lets just say not so good, but in print they actually transformed to some great photographs which enhanced my believe that photographs should exclusively be seen printed. All in all it was great fun and hopefully we will have the chance to do it again :) If you are interested in some pictures you can click HERE It might all be Greek for you but you will get the point :) I'd like to thank all the deviants that were in Athens during the show and found the time to come and check it out. It was great meeting you people.

Now for the surprises. Sometime ago I took part in a contest about Greek summer landscapes with iLove Summer and came back checking my e-mails to see that it won third place with the price being a Manfrotto tripod and head. I am not actually in need of them but winning photo gear is always nice :D For any Greek that is reading this and interested in joining, the site is called Phototrip and it is a cool place for Greek people to meet and take part in various happenings.

Last but not least, logged on today to check my messages on dA and came to realize that yesterday I was awarded a Daily Deviation for The Golden Queen. I would like to thank mr.=XenoPhotography for suggesting it, which was totally unexpected and miss ^PorcelainPoet for liking it enough to feature it. And of course *justeline for posing  A huge thanks to all of you people for the :+fav:'s and the :+devwatch:'s. Will pass by your page and say a thanks though it might take me sometime :)

In trivial news, national election weekend is approaching which is going to be a great chance to turn my back to all the politicians here and head for my favorite mountains hoping for some autumn colours. Please please weather don't bring rain :please: lol. So I will be gone from Friday till next Tuesday. Hope all of you is well and having fun.

p.s. Dianne will post your print before Friday I promise

...still closed

Milos island in the Cyclades was excellent. Heavy northern winds were blowing throughout but the beaches in the south coast were wonderful :) We were there for a week waking up at before sunrise as usual trying to catch the first rays and driving around exploring the island till sunset. The skies behaved twice and I am proud to say that the second time i resisted composing a shot with some rocks sea and a truly magnificent summer sunset for an old fat guy sitting in front of a red door enjoying the setting sun. Damn those summer sunsets last long punishing me for that decision though I don't actually regret it. Maria did capture it and I have it on video so it won't be forgotten :D Milos is a volcanic island formed in successive deposits of volcanic material that was layered over time to form the island, this resulted in a very colourful landscape changing at every corner providing many enjoyable experiences. If you haven't visited I suggest you do and you won't be disappointed. If you don't believe me a quick google search of "Milos" will convince you :) Milos was also the first island where Aphrodite stopped in her shell on her way to Cyprus where the myth says she emerged. One of the most famous status and main attraction of the Louvre Museum was found there and I am talking of course about "Aphrodite of Milos" or as it is most common;y known as "Venus de Milo"

Back in Chios now but still on vacation, Will be back in Athens for good on Sunday cause I have been postponing work for quite a lot and some things piled up. It will be hard returning to my concrete jungle but at least I will have the pictures I have taken to keep me company until the time comes to leave again. As for dA well you people have been very naughty and have been uploading like rabbits. Will go through all my messages but I will fav and run when it comes to deviations. Ok ok I will leave a comment when I see an uneven horizon :giggle: :P So let the fav n' run begin. :sprint:

R.I.P...

...CPL

My circular polarizer got so jealous of us swimming in the sea so it decided to try its swimming skills but as expected being new to the sport it didn't manage to stay afloat for long. Unfortunately while I was dismounting the filters from the camera lens the CPL's rotating part got detached from its fixed part and along with all the square filters mounted on them fell overboard. Being summer retrieving all of them was easy but a thin metal ring that held the surfaces of the CPL together is still MIA

It probably can be fixed, when I return to Athens that is cause here most stores don't even know what a CPL is :P Oh well no polarizing for me from now on. I wasn't taking any serious shots anyway, I was just fooling around so I won't forget how my camera operates. :) Those are todays striking news from Chios island. Still on vacation as you might have guessed. Have a great day and a wonderful week.
